Does anyone know anything much about the french version of “over the edge”? I’ve always been curious about how they changed the setting and background history when they relocated it to the Caribbean. I’ve found very little that isn’t in the the Wikipedia entry.

I wasn't aware they rewrote the setting for OtE. Are you thinking of Conspirations? Looking at GRoG (the French archive for RPGs), it looks like it's set in Al Amarja too: http://www.legrog.org/jeux/conspirations

Yes, I couldn’t remember the name. As far as I’m aware, Conspirations is Over the Edge adapted a bit and translated into French. I was curious because in OTE, Al Amarja is located in the mediterranean. In Conspirations, its somewhere in the Devil’s Triangle off the coast of the Americas - which is a location I’d have preferred in the first place. Unfortunately I can’t read french... nor actually find a copy of Conspirations.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware of the differences. Looking at GRoG, the supplement about Al Amarja wasn't well received at all... As to finding the books, I couldn't find anything on the usual second hand websites. I'll keep an eye out

I was just curious how the in world secret history was adapted to cope with the relocation. Not that I’ve ever used it, as despite several attempts to get into the actual OTE background and use it, my players manage to avoid it and go elsewhere. Not that I minded, as it proved to be the start of a 15 year long series of linked games using the OTE rules, ranging from alternate WW2s, a 17th century france connected to the Dreamlands and to a star system in the 57th century that was inspired by the end sequence of 2001: a space odyssey, and a folk rock band who got strange powers after the circle of standing stones that they were filming a music video in was struck by lightning. Not the sort of things I was likely to have done in the past, so I’m rather impressed by what can happen when you change rule sets 8-). Previously I was running GURPS....

Actually, almost 20 years...

20 years... That's a cool feather to have in your GM hat!
