50 years and still no Dionysiac moon landing.

Admittedly, organization isn't their strong suit, but leaving aside the likelihood of a Dionysiac _mission,_ there hasn't even been a Dionysiac revel on the moon. And thinking on these lines, I notice for the first time just how Apollonian the whole framing of the moon landing was. Kennedy: "man is going to walk on the moon!" Dionysians be like "you're going to fly all that way in order to take a walk?!"

Like I'm not a moon landing denier but the construction is kinda perfect, isn't it? 1. better only send men. Good Christian straight men, no monkey business. 2. the sterility of the surface 3. allegedly moondust on its first exposure to Earth air smells of burnt gunpowder. ....wondering how many more colonial/martial tropes we can pile up here. Is there a moon disease? Do people come back a little crazy? Oh yeah, and then they stuck a modified East India Company flag up there. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_India_Company#Flags https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Union_Flag With stars in the canton: the East India Space Company.

....it's a Herculean task. http://numerocinqmagazine.com/2014/04/13/second-thoughts-in-seamus-heaneys-north-from-antaeus-to-hercules-and-antaeus-to-exposure-patrick-j-keane-2/ The Antaean moon misson involves building a giant earthwork tower.

I'm reminded of a Gygax column in Dragon magazine about Robilar wanting to go to one of the Moons of Oerth for fame & glory. After haranguing the sage he'd funded for months and months, he finds out they've been constructing the largest catapult ever....

@scott _porn memes and frogs_ is really tempting as a new title for the blog.

I would have liked to have seen an Artemis moon landing with female astronauts and a yoni-shaped rocket.
Richard G @ 2019-07-20 18:34:35
yes! Too many lingams spoil the cosmic journey. I bet that’s why they’re all determined to go to Mars next. On which point, what if Mars drives men mad and only women can land there safely?
Andrew Walter @ 2019-07-23 21:50:56
@Richard G It absolutely drove some of them mad, do you know the book Moondust?
Richard G @ 2019-07-24 13:04:11
I didn’t, but now it’s added to my stack.
