Capsule Review of Forbidden Lands, without having ran or played it. In short, I left it behind accidentally and didn't bother walking through the rain for another 15 minutes to retrieve it. Read more if you need to know more about why it's not for me. The good * The best idea is the dwarves increasing the size of the planet to reach the sun so they can build a vessel to travel to the celestial anvils (other stars). * The quantum hex map with stickers for PC deaths and land marks is a nice gimmick. * The GM screen is hefty but not too high. * The dice look nice. * Cards for artifacts are nice. Initiative cards are a nice idea too. The what * I don't know why the Ogres (human dwarf hybrids) are not a PC kin option * Except for the Stalenhag pieces, the art seems uninspired * Hidden maneuvers cards seem unwieldy and only apply to 1:1 fights. Probably won't see much use. * The riding mount cards seem to be filler. The bad * The english version seem overly wordy (a quarter page wasted to tell me I can re-use, change, or re-roll a random encounter if it comes up again). * Art direction and layout break concepts across page spreads and some stuff is as superfluous as it is. * More than 600 pages for the basic rules and the standard campaign ... I really wasn't able to finish it all. That's more than 3 Chthonic Codices. Bonus Capsule review of "The Spire of Quetzel", the OSR luminate 4 site module: I only read the first three. The first was OKish, the second left me disinterested, the third (Hexenwald) is something I could imagine using. I did not read the last one. TL;DR boxed set plus Raven's Purge plus Spire of Quetzel plus two dice sets plus one Card Set available for pick-up in Glasgow for a donation to the Glasgow Autonomous Space.

There is no more blood left to be spilled.

GM: it's your exploration turn, what do you do? Eric: I rummage through LasagnaCon Offices to find this box. I like bad games, especially when they have sexy faux leather covers.

It's not _bad_. It just missed expectations.

That's a real shame. I remember thinking that it was going to have a hard time standing out against the dozens of other games on the market. Sounds like other than some nice components they didn't have much of an idea why they wanted to compete with all the others. I have Coriolis, which I was super excited for but I have so far failed to read much of it. The adventures and campaign seem particularly prescribed, and more cyberpunk than Arabian Nights. Great art though.

I'm actually pretty sure the boxed set is not even in my flat.

Based on this review, I wouldn't buy it but would accept a free copy. I would entirely ignore the books and pick and choose from the components and repurpose them for use with other games.

The dice are pretty.
